Investing at 28

Hey guys,

Thanks for checking in.

So, I’ve wanted to do this for long but never really took that final step – until now.

I’ve always learned to save my money and don’t waste them on stuff you don’t need. Being someone who has packed his life down several times and moved abroad I can tell you – you do not need a lot of stuff to be happy.

The Buffer

Due to my financial situation as a student my income is very low. Good thing is I don’t really need a lot of money to keep things afloat in my little home. Honestly, I only need about 100 EUROs a month to break even every month. Still a lot if you multiple with two years, but that’s the way things are. I can’t work due to my back/neck injury.

Thankfully, I’ve been good at saving up money. I have a pretty good buffer on my savings account to keep me going for the next two years while studying. I’ve always been good at saving my money and now I wanted to take my savings to the next level, so I created an investment account with a Nordic website called Nordnet.

Nordnet Monthly Savings Account

I have no idea how this works yet as I’m completely new to investing, but this is a smart choice for me. I’m sick of having my money on my regular savings account with my bank because you can just use them whenever you want and you don’t make any money from having them in your bank.

Thinking of future me.

What’s good here is that you can transfer whatever amount you can afford to your account. When the account reaches 500 DKK (Approx 70 EUROs) it will automatically invest in the EFT’s or investments funds you picked when creating the account.

This means you don’t have to transfer money every month and you can literally just cut it off if you don’t have the money.

Long Term Strategy

Obviously, this is a new way of taking care of future me. I’m excited but also scared because it’s a brand new world for me. I hope that in the long run when I’m done being a student that I can actually invest more money and hopefully, who knows – one day become financially independent 20-30 years from now.

That’s my long term goal in life right now and I’m excited about it.

I’ve decided to invest in three funds. One for the global market covering the 2,500 biggest companies in the world. One for the Danish market covering the 25 biggest companies in Denmark and then one for the emerging market.

Wrap Up

Are you investing? How do you do it? Is there anyone I should follow to get inspired? Am I stupid for starting investing at 28? Is it too late?

What do you guys think? Share your thoughts, I would love to hear them.

As always, take care of each other and thanks for reading,

Junior out.
