Back to school at 28?

Hey guys,

Thanks for checking in. I hope you’ve had a great weekend and that you’re enjoying your Sunday!

I had some friends over from class on Friday and we had so much fun talking about other stuff than school and work. We’re allowed back to school tomorrow, so we figured it was a good way to break the ice after being separated for the past three weeks.

Learning Curve Called Life

When I decided to go back to school again at age 28 I felt like a lot of people weren’t as supporting as I’d hoped.

Obviously, I had the support of my family and closest friends – but when meeting other people they just give me that look, you know? The “Aren’t you too old for that?”. That look literally offends me and I’ll tell you why in the next section.

I have a teacher called Andy. Andy’s life is super interesting. He’s the first teacher in a long time with whom I’ve been able to talk to about my life choices – the cool thing is, that he’s made the same decisions in life – he left his home country, Canada, at a young age and travelled around the world – and now he has settled down in Denmark with his family.

Andy and I share the same views on life. We’ve both been travelling and living/working abroad and he went back to school at a later age than the average person. Exactly like me.

I went to business school way back because that was the quickest way for me to get out and explore this world of ours. Two months after I graduated I left Denmark to move to Lisbon, Portugal. Since then I’ve been living abroad for a total of about 4 years – and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

Not Just Your Way of Doing It

There are three kinds of people in this world. People like Andy and me, people who choose the traditional way of doing life and people doing the traditional way of life but dreams about the life of travelling and exploring.

I’ll tell you why the “look” offends me.

The look offends me, because it usually comes from people who chose the traditional life with kids, house and car. People who think there’s only one way of doing things, because that’s the way “we’ve always done it”.

This kind of small world mentality is so far from my thought process and view on how life should be lived. Seeking discomfort is a big part of my life and some people just don’t get it.

Quote by Alexandre Potter

But, same as with religion and other beliefs there are always people with views that contradicts with everything you believe in. The problem is that some people look down on you for being “different” and I don’t understand why.

Accept other people’s choices and live your life the way you want to. We don’t make memories for each other, we make them for ourselves.

Wrap Up

So, to answer my own question. No, it’s never too late to go back to school. Life is one big learning curve (cheesy, I know – but true).

I’ve been dreaming of becoming a digital nomad for years. Becoming a multimediadesigner will help me chase down this dream. Unfortunately I had to be involved in a car accident and have a dream ruined to get here, but now I’m here.

Never stop chasing your dreams (another cheesy quote). Seek discomfort. Say yes to challenges. Live your life the way you want and don’t let other’s tell you, you can’t.

I hope this motivates some of you to go out there and follow your dreams and know this – you’re never too old to learn.

Thanks for checking in guys. Take care of yourself and take care of each other!

Junior out.
